Johannesburg Hotels and Johannesburg Accommodation
(Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa, ZA)
Finding accommodation in Johannesburg isn't a problem. As befits its status as a lively cosmopolitan city, there are plenty of lodging options and hotels to suit all budgets and all tastes.
As well as luxury city centre hotels, visitors to Johannesburg can choose to stay in boutique or mid-range hotels, or small guest houses in the suburbs of the city. There are also theme park hotels, rooms available in family homes in Johannesburg's townships, and even the chance of traditional South African accommodation, with some visitors choosing to spend the night in an authentic Zulu hut.
Johannesburg Hotels and Accommodation: Where to Stay - Johannesburg, South Africa, ZA
The city centre of Johannesburg may not be as lively as in years gone by, but this has not altered the fact that it still boasts some very high quality accommodation. Upmarket hotels include the Parktonian, in downtown Braamfontein, and the Carlton.
However, most accommodation can nowadays be found in Johannesburg's northern suburbs. Of these, Parktown is particularly affluent and a popular place to stay. Nearby trendy Melville district also boasts a number of comfortable, inexpensive guest houses that offer that home-from-home feel.
Further north, in modern Johannesburg, visitors can choose from a selection of upmarket and boutique hotels. Business visitors tend to favour the Michelangelo, located in Sandton. However, leisure visitors may prefer to opt for the charm and character of the Grace in Rosebank. Here, facilities include a restaurant, gym, business centre and even a rooftop croquet lawn. The Westcliff, in the suburb of the same name, offers luxury aplenty, together with the spectacular views afforded by its hillside location. Former famous guests are said to include the Dalai Lama and Brad Pitt.
For budget-conscious visitors staying in Johannesburg, the northern suburbs also offer a good choice of reasonably priced chain hotels and lodging. These include Hotel Formula 1, City Lodge and Mercure Hotels. For backpackers, there are any number of hostels. Some offer fairly basic accommodation, whilst others have plenty of amenities.
Visitors can also choose to stay in Johannesburg's most famous township, Soweto. There are several bed and breakfast establishments, which offer a variety of facilities and all within easy reach of the district's main attractions. A short distance from Johannesburg, the multi-cultural village of Lesedi, also offers accommodation with a difference - traditional African huts.
